Galaxy Duos is one of the most sought-after models among the Samsung smartphone series. The Android phone with a 4-inch display and 1 GHz processor has been well-received in India. Even now the Duos is sold via e-tailing websites. It’s been a while since its being rumored that the updated version of the Duos will be released by Galaxy. Some tech-sites even published pictures of the soon-to-come smartphone. Even then Samsung did not deny or accept this. Recently Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S Duos 2 that is the updated version of the first Duos. The company plans to launch the phone in India without much publicity or clamour.

Samsung has provided details of the Duos 2 in their official website. However the company is yet to reveal when the phone will be launched in India or its price. Without waiting for the phone’s official launch, the country’s online retailing sites have begun sale of Duos 2. These sites promise to deliver the phone within a week of order and the price is INR 10,730. The Duos 2 has 480 X 800 pixels resolution with a 4-inch TFT display. The company did not increase the size of the screen even though it is an updated version. The smartphone comes with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 768MB of RAM and 4GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable up to 64GB via microSD card.

The dual-sim Duos model runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s own TouchWiz User Interface. The Duos 2 is home to 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and VGA front-facing camera. For connectivity, the Duos 2 offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, EDGE, GPRS and 3G options. There is a 1500mAh battery to back the device which the company claims can deliver up to 8 hours of talktime and up to 280 hours of standby time.
What is left to know is if the Duos 2 can repeat the success of the Duos. There are many 5-inch screen size smartphones with 4 core or quad-core processor available in the market at a price below INR 10,000. Examples are Lava Iris 458Q (priced at INR 7699), Carbon Titanium S 1 (priced at INR 7999). So it is doubtful how many people are willing to spend INR 10,000 for a smartphone with just a dual-core processor and 4-inch display. However no one challenges the fact that the Samsung brand name raises the worth of Duos 2.
